Yesterday Alexandra had a high of zero – while northern centres remain warm in the mid to upper teens. Quite a contrast from one part of the country to another.
The weather across many parts of New Zealand today is cold and wintry as a low in the Tasman Sea continues to deepen driving in cold winds, clouds and rain – while in the South Island a large high is trapping cold air in.
Rain warnings have today been issued for three North Island regions however the complicated nature of this system means nearby regions have blue sky and no rain.
The mild weather continues to remain over New Zealand with windier conditions for most. While the winds aren’t stormy they are just enough to keep temperatures above normal – and many places frost free.
This week is literally ending on a high, but all is about to change as the weather reminds us that winter isn't all about frosty mornings and beautiful blue dome days.
So how long is this high going to stick with us and when is the next lot of rain on the way?
It's the news farmers have been hoping for - a big high (the size of Australia in fact!) and a mainly fine forecast for Fieldays.
