The Sector Report is our flagship rural current affairs show, hosted by veteran television journalist, John Stewart. It airs each week in a half-hour prime time slot to suit farmers.
The Sector Report covers the whole gamut of happenings in every sector of New Zealand’s vital rural economy and provides a great chance for those appearing in the programme to communicate directly with farmers.
In recent shows, John Stewart has caught up with a whole host of exciting research programmes at Massey University; he’s visited the backblocks behind Lake Taupo to see how they’re controlling nitrate leaching into the lake many kilometres away; he’s examined the plague of mastitis; John’s delved into the mysteries of dairy futures trading and visited a group of savvy Waikato dairy farmers who play the share market. He’s also produced a profile of a little-known but highly successful biotech company, Argenta, that exports to international pharmaceutical giants with markets in 59 countries around the globe.
The Sector Report concentrates on our big rural industries – the traditional ones of sheep, beef, dairy and horticulture. But John Stewart also casts his net much wider with insights into aquaculture, the bee industry, the state of blacksmithing, the bloodstock company that runs the Karaka yearling sales, the billion dollar wine industry, bird pests, farmers angry over Transpower’s pylons on their land and even the long-running 1080 poison controversy.
The Sector Report. Mondays at 8.30pm. The go-to programme for the latest in rural current affairs with John Stewart.
