Kiwi Horse Favourite In Paris Classic

So You Think RacehorseThis weekend a home-bred stallion from Cambridge is a favorite to win the world’s third richest horse race.

So You Think,  New Zealand-bred, but Australian-trained is threatening local favorite Sarafina for the 4 million Euro purse in the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe at the Longchamp Racecourse in Paris on Sunday.

Editor of The Informant Dennis Ryan says at 9 to 4, the favourite is still Sarafina but So You Think is closing fast on her.

"His current odds are 9 to 2. He’s expected to come in and possibly threaten the local mare who has won her last three starts, finished third in last years l’Arc de Triomphe, and he could threaten her for favoritism on the day."

Until now only 2 Kiwi bred horses have raced in the prestigious event, globe-trotting champion Balmerino, who finished second to Alleged in 1977, and New Zealand Derby winner Ring The Bell, unplaced in 1981.

Dennis Ryan says So You Think has already done a fantastic job for New Zealand in his achievements in Australia and Europe.

"L’Arc de Triomphe is the defining race of the European season for middle distance horses.

"So You Think is obviously right up there at the top of that crowd right now and to come off with a win in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe would just be the icing on the cake. It would say so much for us a thoroughbred breeding nation.”
