Rural Women New Zealand have been able to sock it to the English and Australian rugby teams.
The organisation has sold 200 pairs of its iconic Aftersocks to the Christchurch City Council to present to members of both teams on their goodwill visits to the shattered city.
Over 9,000 pairs of Aftersocks, featuring red and black stripes and an earthquake ‘shake’ line, have so far been sold by Rural Women New Zealand.
Manufactured in Ashburton the Aftersocks so far have raised tens of thousands of dollars for the Christchurch Mayoral Earthquake Fund.
Both the English and the Wallabies teams were scheduled to play Rugby World Cup matches in Christchurch, but the Canterbury earthquakes derailed those plans.
Liz Evans, National President of Rural Women New Zealand described what happend
“The coach of the team, Martin Johnson, accepted the socks and put them on. So they will be taking home with them a remembrance I suppose of the earthquakes.”
