kiwi eventer Clarke Johnstone has ridden into equestrian history books by becoming New Zealand’s first FEI World Cup Series champion.
Clarke lifted the crown in the final round of Le Grand Complete at Haras du Pin, in Northern France.
Early Monday morning New Zealand time, and riding Orient Express, Clarke Johnstone finished sixth in the final round of series. But with two wins and a third under his belt, Johnstone was 10 points ahead of second placed Australian, Chris Burton.
As well as prize money of Eur30,000, 24-year-old Clarke was also presented with a trophy for being the youngest competitor in the competition.
He was part of the bronze medal-winning team at the World Champs in Kentucky last year, and ranks this as his most important win.
