Hot on the heels of his success at the British Open Championship at Gatcombe Park a week ago, Kiwi eventer Andrew Nicholson’s winning streak has continued.
Placing first overnight at the International Hartpury Horse Trials in the UK, Nicholson, aboard Mr Cruise Control, won the CIC*** event.
Nicholson rode into the very challenging Eric Winter-designed cross country course as first equal, and came out top after only incurring time faults. A strong feat in itself, as the course saw 33 of the 69 top eventers withdrawn or eliminated.
Nicholson said he didn’t expect any different from his talented horse.
“Yeah no I expected it, it’s a good horse and I won their last year as well. So it’s good to win and we've actually been going well all year. I just keep missing it at the big, big ones.”
Equestrian Sports New Zealand high performance director Sarah Harris says Nicholson's results underline the quality, commitment and class of this very seasoned campaigner.
Ms Harris says the results show Nicholson’s putting more emphasis on chasing the wins now and it’s showing in his results.
Hartpury was the last big competition before the top-ranked Burghley Horse Trials, which starts September 1.
Ms Harris says that Burghley is the key targeted competition for this half of the international season, and Andrews winning streak makes him a hot contender for the trophy.
