
Australia has banned all live cattle exports to Indonesia following last week’s horrific scenes of animal abuse in Indonesian abattoirs caused outrage.
Australia made the decision following a massive public outcry about the brutality of the trade, after footage of cattle being beaten and tormented in Indonesian slaughterhouses was broadcast on tv.
Australian agriculture minister Joe Ludwig, says the ban will stay in place until Indonesia can guarantee the proper treatment of the beasts.
Live cattle exports to Indonesia were worth $318 million a year to Australia.
