The discovery of three more Bay of Plenty orchards with PSA, has led to the Kiwifruit Vine Health organization extending the official high risk zone.
More than 240 orchards are now infected with PSA, and half of those have the virulent strain – PSA V.
The high risk zone now includes Welcome Bay and Matapihi.
The official advice to growers who find secondary PSA symptoms, is for them to cut out the infected vine immediately.
It can then be buried or burned in a mobile incinerator.
