Countdown to Co-op Announcement

wool balesThe countdown is on for the wool partners co-operative, as the last commitment deadline expired at midnight Wednesday morning.

The WPC extended its final cutoff for shares in the company, three times, but announced there would be no more extensions after Wednesday.

The Co-operative is aiming to secure half the country’s wool clip, around 65 million kilos of strong wool.

Director Mark Shadbolt said on Tuesday they were hopeful of meeting the $55m target, but would not be drawn on how much they had already secured.

A Grower Advisory Team made up of 22 sheep farmers around the country has been keeping track of farmers’ who have committed to the co-op, and giving advice and information to those who need it.

G.A.T member Robert Carter says while there were clearly initial doubts from some, most of those issues have been cleared up.

"Well, I think our main concern is that we want it to be a goer...I’m concerned that it may not happen, certainly hope that it will.

"I understand that we’ve definitely got $35 million but we won’t know until tonight whether the directors have decided to go ahead or not."

WPC Chairman Jeff Grant says there is always a flurry of subscriptions in the last 48 hours, as farmers make up their minds.

"We have seen an influx over the past couple of deadlines and I don't have the figures here but I hope it's enough to get us over the line."

The Wool Partner’s Co-op is expecting to announce the final count on Friday morning, so watch this space.
