The fight against Kiwifruit Vine Disease PSA has taken another strategic turn.

The organisation set up to manage the fight, Kiwifruit Vine Health, has agreed to shift the focus more towards gold vines with the more aggressive Italian strain of PSA.

Under the new strategy, any orchards in the affected area with other strains of the disease will take priority only if their vines display secondary PSA symptoms.

KVH Chair John Burke says the changes were needed to adjust the priorities of the control and eradication program.

"The new strategy means we are continuing in our aggressive management of infected orchards"

Mr Burke says the changes will be effective immediately, and will be discussed during grower meetings in early March.
