HortNZ wants to know when MAF will come up with answers to the biosecurity lapse that allowed un-checked Strawberry kits into the country.
HortNz have been asking the Ministry of Agriculture to complete its review, on the failed system that allowed the kits that entered New Zealand without the correct bio security measures, but as yet has had no definitive answer.
Originally from China, the strawberry kits were sold through The Warehouse chain of stores and despite a massive publicity campaign, so far only a disappointing 67 kits have been returned and a total of 1279 kits are still unaccounted for.
HortNZ says it is disappointed with what looks like a very low level of response to the recall of the kits.
The organisation says it would be reassuring for growers if members of the public who have jiust disposed of the kits themselves, could let MAF know.
MAF says it hopes to have the review completed by early next year. The review is being conducted by an internal review team.
MAF says the review will examine the wider biosecurity system, including the Import Health Standard, how the seed kits came through the border, where decisions were made, and how MAF responded to the situation.
