This Friday world champ team-mates Maurice Beatson and Katie McVean will start as hot favorites in the opening round of the NZ World Cup Show Jumping Series in Hawke’s Bay.
The two friendly rivals went head to head in the Gisborne Grand Prix over the weekend, with Beatson taking the win aboard his home-bred horse, My Gollywog.
But McVean, who represented New Zealand at the World Cup final in Germany where she finished sixth overall – the best any Kiwi has ever done, is a top contender for a second win in the series, and won’t be giving up her title without a fight.
Defending New Zealand World Cup champ McVean will start on her rising star, Dunstan Daffodil, and will introduce another superstar hopeful, Dunstan Zasjany.
McVean is looking for a horse to fill the shoes of the amazing Dunstan Delphi, one of the best jumpers in the world, and who sold earlier this year for an undisclosed multi-million dollar sum, to Saudi Arabia.
The series runs over seven rounds with the best five counting.
The victor on the weekend, has the opportunity to represent New Zealand at the prestigious World Cup Final to be held in Hertongenbosch in the Netherlands, in April.
