A kiwifruit industry conference focussing on the devastating bacterial disease, PSA, will be held in the Bay of Plenty over the next two days.

The conference, titled Overcoming Challenges Through Innovation, will feature a range of guest speakers, including international and domestic scientists, officials from Zespri and Kiwifruit Vine Health and other industry players.  

The conference will be held as speculation mounts that it was kiwifruit growers importing pollen from abroad that introduced the bacterial disease to New Zealand in 2010.

The Commerce Commission is also investigating one company – Kiwi Pollen – after a complaint was laid that it didn’t specify where its pollen came from on packaging.

MAF is due to release a report on how it believes PSA arrived in the country within days.
