A New Zealand agritech company has taken the top prize at the United States international good design award for its revolutionary animal vaccine safety injector, Sekurus.
Simcro launched theaward-winning injector last year at its home base in Hamilton. The company is a world leader in providing customised animal health delivery solutions – like safety injectors and drench guns – to the pharmaceutical industry.
The self-tenting safety injector features a self-tenting needle guard and two-step mechanism allowing the operator to tent the animal’s skin and delivery the correctly-measured dose of vaccine in a one-handed action. Will Rouse, the managing director of Simcro, says this virtually eliminates the risk of accidental self-injections.
“It’s a safety device so it greatly minimizes the risk of self injection,” said Mr. Rouse. “We brought two new vaccines to the market that have recently been launched and it took us about three years to come up with what we thought was a suitable product that met all the requirements.”
