Greenpeace Spark Bomb Scare

And Fonterra’s big day nearly didn’t happen as a Greenpeace protest saw head office evacuated on Thursday morning.

Activists descended on the Princes St building to protest against Fonterra’s alleged use of palm kernel from the rainforests of South East Asia.

During the protest a suspicious package was left in the building, prompting a bomb scare.

Greenpeace climate campaigner Simon Boxer says Fonterra needs to front up on the issue.

"Unfortunately the New Zealand dairy farmers, thanks to Fonterra’s management, are handing hard cash to the very same companies who are out there today clearing rainforest."

Fonterra bosses were coy on the issue of deforestation at the press conference later that day, CEO Andrew Ferrier wasn't able to give an answer.

“We’ve got plenty of people in our communications department that you can talk to about that, we’re here to talk about our annual results.”

But police say charges are likely following the evacuation.

The box was found to contain two speakers.
