Insurance The Focus For Quake Victims

As Canterbury edges closer to normality following last week’s earthquake, attention is now turning to the massive recovery effort facing North Canterbury farmers over the coming months.

Selwyn MP Amy Adams lives close to the quake’s epicentre at Darfield, and she says her family’s loss will be significant.

Mrs Adams says the main concern for her family, and many others, is how far insurance policies will stretch, as it emerges that damage to pasture and some farm equipment may not be covered.

Insurance Council CEO Chris Ryan says the quake will have much wider implications for the Canterbury economy.

Federated Farmers North Canterbury Grain & Seed chair Murray Rowlands says his workload hasn’t let up, despite most immediate dangers being brought under control.

He says the last week’s relief effort was testament to the value of the Fed Farmers network.
