Fonterra has launched another initiative in its ongoing battle with effluent compliance – and it plans to visit every one of its suppliers to check their systems.
The co-op acknowledges effluent as its Achilles heel, and its new ‘every farm, every year’ programme aims to cut down cases of significant non-compliance on effluent rules.
The programme has been road tested in the Waikato since March, General Manager, Milk Supply Tim Deane says there’s been good response from local councils and industry groups.
The programme is part of Fonterra’s annual $5m investment in sustainable dairying, and will match farmers at risk of non-compliance with a sustainable dairy specialist.
