Natural Dairy Goes On PR Offensive

Controversial dairy company Natural Dairy Holdings Ltd has spared no expense in its latest attempt to win over the New Zealand public.

The Hong Kong-based company has used a full page ad in the front section of Tuesday’s New Zealand Herald to make its case for buying 16 farms owned by the Crafar family.

In the ad the company addresses several points it says have been misrepresented by media, including the total size of the bid and the benefits for ‘Brand New Zealand’ overseas.

“I think it’s the nature of the news media in general to concentrate on raw emotion and spectacular rhetoric at times and overlook the facts.

"So Natural Dairy thought about it for a while and said ‘The only way we’re going to get our information about the benefits that might accrue from this scheme is by taking out paid advertising and doing a public information campaign.’

"Yeah, it’s a bit of a sad indictment on the media in general but that’s how the commercial media operate, I suppose.”

Natural Dairy will also start a $5m annual fund for young people entering the dairy industry, and says the bid is a ‘good deal’ for New Zealand.
