The meat industry could be poised for a major shake-up this week as three key players signal a possible pooling of resources.

Silver Fern Farms, PGG Wrightson and Landcorp will hold a joint media conference on Tuesday to announce a ‘significant development’ for the red meat sector.

No further details are available yet, but earlier this year PGG and Silver Fern secured money from the Government’s Primary Growth Partnership to design a transformation model for the sector.

The meat industry has long been criticised for being supply-led rather than market driven.
