Federated Farmers opposed the introduction of the Emissions Trading Scheme until the eleventh hour, now it’s pushing for harder, faster scrutiny of it.
The ETS came into effect last week, and its first review is due next year, but the Feds are pushing for that to be brought forward.
President Don Nicolson says as the scheme was passed after the lightest of inspections, it needs to be put under the microscope as soon as possible.
“It’s not intended to be in your face, it’s just something that’s there working away, we’re just saying the Government needs to fast track its 2011 review.
"There isn’t enough knowledge around the parameters of what this might eventually look like, and we want to be a part of that.”
The Feds are running a web-based ‘switch off’ campaign, to stress the current review is light on detail.
