ACT Party agriculture spokesman David Garrett is weighing in on the farming and foreign ownership debate, taking aim at the Green Party.
Mr Garrett says the Greens approach to the controversy, and suggestion that foreign ownership of farms be banned outright, is counter-productive.
"We need to appreciate the contribution that the rural sector makes to our economy, and just as importantly it’s crucial to be aware that the vast majority of our farmers aren’t environmental vandals.
"In fact, most of our farmers have a real interest in leaving the land better than they found it, and it’s almost as if the Green Party don’t get it.”
Mr Garrett says party leaders are simply pandering to their core supporters.
“Their support is almost unthinking and ill-informed."
"It seems to me that the majority of their voting base are younger people who haven’t really got any idea of who they’re supporting and the ramifications of it, they seem to say “they’re green, that sounds good, we’ll vote for that.”
