Beekeepers will discuss the latest developments in authenticating honey and other bee products as their national conferences launches in Nelson this week.

President Frans Laas says being able to prove where the honey comes from is critical as there have already been cases of honey falsely labelled as New Zealand product appearing in overseas markets.

He says that puts at risk New Zealand's good reputation for the honey it produces and the premium prices it gets as a result.
