Otago Farmers Assess Heavy Rain Damage

People across Otago are mopping up  the  damage as South Island floodwaters recede following  a week of torrential rain.

More than 50 rural roads across the Waitaki District were flooded, and the district council warns  it could take considerable time  to clear away debris and repair potholes.

Seven rural water supply schemes remain  shut down because of flooded rivers, and the council wants affected households to conserve water.

Federated Farmers'  North Otago president Ross Ewing says for most local farmers, the situation is under control.
