Wild Weather Strikes South Canterbury

Conditions in South Canterbury have worsened overnight, with strong easterly winds and rising floodwaters forcing many farmers to move stock to higher ground.

To make matters worse, snow is forecast in the area down to 200 metres overnight, meaning further complications could arise as a result of colder conditions.

Scott Ridley of Waitaki Civil Defence in Oamaru says farmers in the area received good early warnings, and most of the feedback they’re getting is good.

Oamaru farmer Ross Ewing says farmers in the area are keeping an eye out for anyone who may be struggling with conditions, and helping them with stock movements.
