NZ Farmers Welcome Wet Weather

While the wild weather battering New Zealand looks set to continue for the coming days, so far the rain has brought farmers more delight than damage.

Despite the heavy rainfall in Canterbury, rural folk have welcomed the weather. Rangiora goat farmer Chris Sundstrum says the amount of rain received was just about perfect.

Canterbury received between 60 and 100mm of rain overnight although river levels are holding. But Environment Canterbury warns  the worst may be yet to come.

Flood management coordinator Graham Sullivan says while the rain levels have so far been less than forecast, the wet weather is now expected to pelt down until Thursday. Farmers should take precautions and move stock to higher ground.
