Despite the crippling drought conditions, farmers are feeling more upbeat about the economy, according to the latest survey of confidence in the rural sector.

The Rabobank survey shows one-third of the country's farmers expect the rural economy to improve in the year, up 2% since the final quarter of 2009.

And it’s the sheep and beef farmers who are expecting the best.
