Multi-Million Dollar Bumper Crop For Jazz Apples
New Zealand’s biggest apple exporter expects its Jazz variety to be worth about $45 million this season with 1-and-a-half million cartons shipped throughout the globe. The apple, a cross between Royal Gala and Braeburn, was introduced to the international market six years ago.
ENZA spokesperson Campbell Naish says it’s becoming one of the most popular apples in the world. He predicts recent plantings are likely to double the number of export cartons by 2014.
If you’d like to try the Jazz apples, they’ll appear on New Zealand shelves this week for only the second year.
