May Wang To Fight Bankruptcy

Natural Dairy’s bid to buy the Crafar family farms is looking uncertain as frontwoman May Wang fights a bankruptcy ruling on a failed property venture.

Ms Wang was declared bankrupt in the Auckland High Court on Wednesday, but has applied to the Court of Appeal to stay solvent so she can go ahead with partial compensation of creditors.

Ms Wang says the portrayal of the bid in the media has been unfair.

“I believe that New Zealand is still a healthy country in terms of justice, everybody should have a fair hearing.

"I don’t know why I didn’t get a fair hearing."

May Wang says without foreign investment New Zealand farmers will be priced out of the market.

"If no one wants to buy the farms at the price we are paying now, then the property values will drop.

"None of the banks are lending to anyone, that’s why New Zealanders aren’t able to buy farms unless they can come up with enough equity.

"I don’t see anyone buying farms in New Zealand coming up with that equity – that is why there are no farm sales locally.”

May Wang says a failed Natural Dairy bid would cost more than 100 jobs throughout the country.
