NZX has signalled the launch of two new dairy products on the futures market, starting in February next year.
Both Anhydrous Milk Fat (AMF) and Skim Milk Powder (SMP) futures will begin trading on February 18th 2011.
After the successful launch of Whole Milk Powder (WMP) contracts in October, NZX CEO Mark Weldon says the plan was always to increase the range of tradable commodities.
"Our aim is to have New Zealand recognised as a global dairy hub, which will be good for the industry here and, ultimately, for the national economy.”
Since October’s launch, more than 200 contracts have changed hands, the majority of those short term.
NZX head of markets, Fiona Mackenzie, says the market is still not "truly liquid" but has "strong support from a range of dairy participants who are dedicated to seeing a futures market develop for the global dairy industry."
NZX will also add options for the three futures products next year.
