Feds Lament Lost Chance

Federated Farmers is back on the anti-Emissions Trading Scheme message, this time using the UN Climate Change Summit in Cancun to prove its point.

Environmental leaders from around the world are meeting in Mexico to discuss climate change, but no nation has emerged likely to join New Zealand in implementing an ETS.

Feds President Don Nicolson says New Zealand’s inflated sense of importance is taking it further down the wrong path.

"New Zealand is in the club of one - all sectors, all gases and that is unique.

"We are alone in the world and it is time New Zealand stopped being alone in the world, no consumer in the world is going to pay one cent more for the produce out of New Zealand because of it.

"The world is bigger than New Zealand, New Zealanders keep thinking they are bigger than the world."

Mr Nicolson says New Zealand needs to come back to the pack on climate change policy when it reviews the Emissions Trading Scheme next year.
