Wool Deadline Extended

The Wool Partners Co-operative has extended the deadline for farmers to join the initiative until December 17th.

Farmers initially had until Tuesday to sign on to the deal, which needs $65m backing, or half the national strong wool supply.

WPC chairman Jeff Grant says some farms with corporate and trusts structures needed more time to consider the proposal.

“The main reason for the extension is to give a bit more time to growers who’ve expressed some concern over the shortness of the previous date of [November] 30th.

"We’ve got some family trusts and corporations that have to go through governance decisions, and they’ve said it’s taking a bit longer than they had planned."

Mr Grant says while exact numbers aren’t yet known, the co-op looks to be on track to hit its 50 per cent target.

As always there’s a bit of a gap between the cheques that are in and those who’ve said they have sent them.

"We’ll have a much better picture by next week when the bulk of those trying to meet the deadline of the 30th have sent them.”

WPC has held 80 farmers meetings around the country.

It’s thought around half of eligible woolgrowers attended.
